Child malnutrition rate as high as 29% in rural China

Nearly one third of children living in China's poorest areas suffer from malnutrition, state media reported, citing a report by the Beijing-based Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, underscoring the country's growing economic disparity. The report said 29% of children younger than 5 who live in the poor regions of southwestern China's Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, or in Qinghai in the northwest, were malnourished, while child malnutrition in urban areas was estimated at 1%.
