China By Numbers: Cars, organs and special pardons

Some China-related numbers that you may have missed:

1,466 – The daily increase in cars on the streets of Beijing according to the Beijing Municipal Traffic Authority.

5,000 – The number of organ transplants that China performs each year, the second highest in the world.

17.7% – Chery Auto’s growth target for 2009. The company expects the rise to be driven by government stimulus measures.

7 – Number of special pardons issued by the Chinese government since 1949. Gao Mingxuan, a legal expert at Renmin University is suggesting Beijing issue a special pardon to ordinary prisoners on October 1st to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
