China By Numbers: Salary increases, book print runs and disgraced rich people

Some China-related numbers that you may have missed:

15.4% – The salary increase for employees in state-owned enterprises in Shanghai in 2008. The average salary increase for all Shanghai residents was 13.8%.

300k – The first print run of the simplified-Chinese edition of Eileen Chang’s novel Little Reunion. Chang is the author of Lust, Caution, which was made into a film by Ang Lee. Little Reunion was launched at Beijing University last week and is now in its third print run.

$57m – The amount of money China’s former 68th richest person, Wu Ying, swindled from 11 people. She went on trial for fraud in Zhejiang province last month.

10 – The number of infrastructure projects that began in Beijing in April. The total cost of the projects is estimated at approximately US$2.9 billion.
