New search engine company Accoona Corp, backed by China Daily which holds an undisclosed stake, opened for business, saying revenue would be driven by ads sold by Yahoo Inc's space-selling arm. Accoona Chairman Eckhard Pfeiffer, a former CEO of Compaq Computer, said the relationship with China Daily gave the venture a "head start" in its battle to take share away from industry-leading Google, which tailors its search engine to Beijing's requirements. Accoona, which has a 20-year agreement to mine China Daily archives, is not expected to make any departures in that respect.
