China dams river to protect Russian city

China is working "around the clock" to finish a temporary dam to reduce the impact of a river-born chemical spill on the Russian city of Khabarovsk, state media reported. Construction of the dam on the Fuyuan waterway off the Heilong River began on Friday. It is estimated that about 100 tons of benzene and nitrobenzene was spilt into Northeast China's Songhua River following an explosion at a chemical plant in November. Officials refused to comment on the cost of the project.
