State Grid Corporation of China expects approval soon from the central government to build 12 power lines across the country, South China Morning Post reported, citing a statement on the firm’s website. The utilities company will initially invest at least US$33.7 billion (RMB210 billion) into the project, which includes eight ultra-high voltage power lines. Once completed, the grid will allow China to relocate many power plants from populated areas near Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to remote inland areas. In effect, this will shift pollution to other areas.
