China Telecom Europe (CTE) will expand its Middle East regional headquarters and network hub in Dubai to cover North Africa as it continues to enlarge its network and services. Since opening the Dubai office in 2008, the international telecom carrier has seen traffic grow enormously in the region. The Dubai operation has a choice of three terrestrial routes and a fourth, involving Kazakhstan, is due to open before the end of the year, Al Bawaba Business reported. "This is all part of our vision to create what we call the ‘Information Silk Road’, stretching across EMEA and providing highly resilient, carrier class access to the largest communications network in China and to an expanding global network, which now includes as many as 20 long distance submarine cables," said Ou Yan, CTE managing director. EMEA is an acronym for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
