Wireless Intelligence reports that China Mobile continues to be ranked as the world’s biggest operator, with the highest mobile subscriber connections of 556.3 million and the biggest mobile revenue at US$17.7 billion. However, its two domestic rivals – China Unicom and China Telecom – have also improved their respective standings, with China Unicom ranked eighth, up one notch from last year, and China Telecom entering the top 20 for the first time, in 20th place. China remains the world’s single largest mobile market in terms of connections, and operator revenues have been boosted over the last year as China ramped up its 3G network rollout. Mobile Business Briefing said this is particularly true of China Telecom, which managed to migrate almost 10% of its customer base to 3G by the second quarter – a higher proportion than either of its two rivals.
