Chinese authorities have asserted that the H7N9 can be transmitted between humans, contradicting previous statements by health authorities that human-to-human transmission of the virus was impossible, the Financial Times reported. In a carefully worded statement posted in the Ministry of Health’s website, the director of China’s Center for Disease Control said that members of the population who are immuno-compromised can, “in theory,” also be infected in rare cases. The H7N9 virus has infected 82 people to date, according to the ministry. Five of those infected have recovered, 17 have died and the rest remain in critical condition.
