A growing economy and a rise in disposable income have made the Chinese the world’s biggest spending travelers, according to the UN World Tourism Organisation, Reuters reported. The Chinese spent US$102 billion (RMB632 billion) on foreign trips in 2012, 41% more than the year before. They outspent German and American tourists, who both spent around US$84 billion last year. In total, Chinese tourists made 83 million trips abroad in 2012 compared to 10 million in 2000. The UNWTO noted that tourism from other BRIC countries, such as Russia and Brazil, also increased as the size of their middle class expands.
