China Gezhouba Group (600068.SHA), the company that built China’s Three Gorges Dam, said it is to build two hydroelectric dams in Argentina worth US$4.7 billion, Reuters reported, citing a company filing. The project will involve Gezhouba, who will hold 60% interest in the project, designing and building the dams in Patagonia and maintaining them for 15 years. The dams, which are set to take 66 months to complete, will be located along the Santa Cruz River and will have a combined generating capacity of 1,740 megawatts. Argentina will apply for financing and loans from Chinese banks.
