Citizens take agriculture ministry to court over Monsanto weedkiller

The Beijing No. 3 Intermediate People’s Court has accepted a lawsuit against the Ministry of Agriculture by three Chinese citizens over a toxicology report from 27 years ago supporting the approval of Monsanto weedkiller Roundup, the key ingredient of which was recently found to be “probably carcinogenic to humans” by a World Health Organization group, Reuters reported, citing a court official. The plaintiffs are demanding the ministry make public the animal test that it cited as evidence to support its approval of the glyphosate-based Roundup in 1988.
