Air China cancelled more than 5,000 flights between April 1 and May 15, mostly domestic, said
company spokesman Wang Yong-sheng. To offset lost revenue, he said the airline would
save Yn39Om this year by deleting delivery of three planes each from Boeing and Airbus,
and cutting purchasing and staff costs.
On May 8, when the Sars virus was at its peak, the carrier operated just 45 flights a day in and out of Beijing Capital Airpon and carried 2,055 passengers compared with a normal service of280 flights and 45,000 pas-sengers.
By June 3, it was operating 119 flights and carried 12,000 passengers.
