Shanghai Daily. Occupancy at the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel had risen to 40
percent from a low of 15 per cent in May. The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Pudong said
occupancy had been a respectable 47 per cent in May and early July, against a normal level
of8O-85 percent.
Shanghai residents were returning to public transport in early June,
said the newspa-per. About 80,000 people a day were travel-ling on trains in and out of
Shanghai railway station, compared with a low-point of 60,000 during the Sars scare.
However, a spokesman for Shanghai Railway Administration said it would take some time
before public confidence in travelling was restored. The number of commuters on the
metro had increased from 600,000 a day to 900,000 by early June.
