Editor condemns restraints on freedom

A veteran editor of the China Youth Daily, wrote a letter charging the newspaper's new editor-in-chief with restraining editorial freedom and succumbing to party dogma, the South China Morning Post reported. Li Datong's letter, made public in an online chat room, condemns a new payment system which ties journalists' bonuses to praise by party and government leaders. The editor-in-chief, Li Erliang, took over in December in what was viewed as a tightening of media controls by authorities.
