Fish ban upsets Indonesia

Indonesia demanded clarification over China's ban on fish and shellfish from the country for containing mercury, cadmium and the banned drug nitrofural in recent shipments, the Financial Times reported. The ban came after Indonesia claimed cosmetics and 80% of toys imported from China contained mercury and toxic substances, respectively. "This is not a trade war; it is a temporary suspension, not yet a permanent ban," said Indonesian trade minister Mari Pangestu. Indonesia exported US$70.3 million in aquatic product exports to China last year.
