The Communist Party has officially expelled former domestic security chief Zhou Yongkang and had him arrested for allegedly leaking state secrets, using his position for financial gain and engaging in adultery, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing state media. News about Zhou came shortly before midnight, when most Chinese were unlikely to immediately learn of it. Still, state media immediately touted the expulsion as an example of President Xi Jinping’s determination to press ahead with his anti-graft campaign. Zhou, who turns 72 this month and in November marked his 50th year as a party member, hasn’t appeared in public for over a year.
