Haikou Meilan Airport is hoping to list in Hong Kong and to attract strategic foreign investors, according to South China Morning Post. Sources familiar with the listing plan told the newspaper in July that the airport management was meeting with several European and Asian airport management firms to discuss potential investment. The airport has revealed plans to spend Yn300m-400m, raising its passenger throughput capacity from 6m to 10m by constructing more landing slots and a new passenger handling building.
Meilan processed 5.1m passengers in 2001, 16 per cent more than in 2000, making it China's eighth largest airport. Cargo throughput was 54,218 tonnes of freight and mail, giving it a national ranking of 13.
Sino-US design for Olympic Park Beijing Municipal Architecture and Design Committee has approved a design for the city's Olympic Park jointly drafted by Sasaki Associates of the US and the Shanghai office of Tianjin Huahui Construction and Design, South China Morning Post said. The design covers 2.9m sq metres of land that will house the main facilities for the 2008 Olympic Games. The winning design was chosen by a panel of 13 Chinese and foreign judges from a field of 87 competitors. The winners will receive US$250,000 but construction will not begin until further refinements are made to the design.
