How's business? – Films, funds and manufacturing

What people are saying about doing business in China:

Westerner who works in the Chinese film industry and on Western/Chinese co-productions:
“It’s definitely slow right now and it will be slow until the whole slew of political anniversaries is over. And then there’s supposed be quite a few big budget movies coming. That’s what we’re all telling each other. At least you know that other people are in the same position as you.”

China investment fund manager in Hong Kong:
“Business is difficult. There is basically no funding available, nothing coming from investors, and no appetite for new deals. If you have money in your fund, you have a tough choice about what to do with it right now.”

Person working in manufacturing in Dongguan:
“Everyone is on their ass down here right now – everyone. After Chinese New Year, so many of the companies delayed opening, they didn’t open until February 20th. Normally they open a week after Chinese New Year, but they delayed it for a few weeks.”
