A partner in a company that provides short- and long-term serviced apartments in Beijing:
“Business has been growing pretty steadily. A lot of people are looking for alternatives to places like Oakwood or the Ascott for short-term stays in Beijing, so we’re a cheaper alternative. There’s less long-term people than there were before, but more people overall.”

Hong Kong-based director of an executive search firm:
“Business is the worst I’ve seen in 14 years.”

CEO of a Hong Kong textile manufacturer with operations on the mainland:

“Consolidation is taking place. We actually haven’t seen much of a slowdown, as we are gaining orders from other factories that have closed.”
