President Hu Jintao said that China is "available" to help Portugal overcome the effects of the financial crisis, Bloomberg reported. "We are available to support, through concrete measures, Portuguese efforts to face the impacts caused by the international financial crisis, and deepen and broaden our economic and commercial cooperation," he said, speaking at the end of a two-day visit to the country. Hu did not provide details as to what specific kinds of assistance China would be willing to offer, but noted the goal of doubling trade between China and Portugal by 2015. Hu did not mention Portuguese sovereign debt in public comments during his trip.
