Human rights amendment gets tepid US reception

The US State Department welcomed the new amendments to China's constitution passed at the National People's Congress, but stressed that it was crucial for China to implement the measures. A State Department spokesman said that the addition to China's constitution would not affect possible US sponsorship of a UN resolution officially condemning the mainland's human rights record.
