Google has dismissed claims it set up its China search platform, Google.cn, without obtaining the Internet content provider (ICP) license required to provide Internet content services in China, Reuters reported. The company said it was using the ICP license of local company Ganji.com, a practice employed by a number of foreign Internet firms in China, including Yahoo and eBay. However, a Chinese newspaper had earlier reported that the Ministry of Information Industry, responsible for regulating China's Internet, had launched an investigation. Google has faced criticism recently for adhering to Beijing's demands that it block politically sensitive items through Google.cn.
