Lenovo has launched a new version of its LePhone with China Telecom. The latest version, priced at RMB2,899 (US$433), is based on CDMA 2000 technology that China Telecom adopted in its 3G network.
Hardware and software updates include an enhanced digital camera and several pre-installed applications.
Lu Yan, president of Lenovo Mobile, Lenovo’s cell phone subsidiary, said he is confident the company would be able to achieve its goal of selling over 1 million LePhones by May next year.
Yang Yuanqing, chief executive of Lenovo Group, said earlier this year Lenovo sold over 100,000 LePhones in its first 45 days. He expects mobile internet products to account for 10 to 20% of Lenovo’s revenue in the next five years.
English People’s Daily Online reports revenue from mobile devices contributed 3.5 percent to Lenovo’s total revenue in the fiscal first quarter ended July.
