A lethal new strain of bird flu, called H10N8, has been identified in China. The virus killed a 73-year-old woman in the city of Nanchang in Jiangxi province last December, Financial Times reported, citing a case report in the Lancet on Wednesday. Mingbin Liu from Nanchang City Centre for Disease Control and Prevention told the UK-based medical journal that the new strain has pandemic potential and pointed out that a second case of H10N8 had been identified in Jiangxi province in late January. It is not clear that the virus would be dangerous to young healthy people.
