A glance at Louis Vuitton’s Spring collection may prompt a double-take. LV has just redefined the classification of “designer handbag.” You may remember these 10 renminbi beauties from your local street vendor. Or perhaps you’ve come across someone in China or Hong Kong balancing one large checkered bag on either side of a pole while transporting various goods. Especially when you’re moving, these suckers come in handy as they seem to expand the more things you stuff in them. LV, one of the most popular luxury brands in Asia, as well as one of the most-often counterfeited, has introduced their must-have handbag for spring. Choose from different colors and sizes. Of course, if they’re stamped with LV, they must be luxe, right? One runway reviewer described the new spring collection as a “complex refraction” of many “inspirational sparks” that go into developing LV’s multinational appeal.
Do we call this extreme face lift (errr…face droop?) the new shabby chic to be embraced as a thank you gesture from LV or a mockery of our ridiculous brand-obsessed culture? The joke, in the end, may very well be on the consumers.
