An advertising auction for prime-time slots on CCTV in 2003 raised Yn3.31bn, an increase of 26 per cent on the 2002 amount. The main bidders were manufacturers of drinks, pharmaceuticals, mobile telephones, food, household appliances and health products. CCTV accounted for 40 per cent of China’s advertising revenue in the first half of 2002 and 33 per cent of the total television audience.
