Meizu M9 was definitely due before Christmas. Now it has arrived. The resemblances to the Apple iPhone are irresistible although it is wrong to call it precisely a clone.
It runs an 800MHz processor, not 1GHz, with slightly faster scores than the Nexus One with its Android 2.1 operating system, though it’s slightly slower than some of the opposition.
It looks enough like an iPhone to have street cred without being obvious. The phone dialer, music player, browser and messaging interfaces are all based loosely on Apple’s iOS template. Meizu keeps the Android keyboard.
Meizu has lately been challenged by Apple for allegedly copying its designs too closely. In return it is challenging the validity of Apple’s patents and it is believed already to have won in some areas.
Electronista reports the closest similarity between the M9 and iPhone is the display, which at 3.5 inches and 640×960 is near identical to Apple’s.
