The Scandinavian company Metso Minerals is investing in two new manufacturing units in China to serve its customers in the fastgrowing transportation infrastructure sector. One unit, based in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area, will manufacture Nordberg crushing and screening equipment. The other, located in Wuqing, between Beijing and Tianjin, will make compaction and paving equipment, such as rollers and pavers.
The other major division of Metso Corporation, Metso Paper, has won a US$66m order for a lightweight coated paper machine. It will be supplied to a new line being built in Yueyang, Hunan province.
Universal considers Shenzhen for theme park Shenzhen is in talks with Universal Studios about the possible construction of a theme park, a marketing executive from the southern city told the Associated Press. The park would compete with a Disneyland due to open in Hong Kong in 2005. Universal Studios, which operates theme parks in Florida, California, Japan and Spain, said it was considering a park in southern China as part of its exploration for new sites.
