Military spokesman: No change in alert level

A Defense Ministry spokesman said he had not heard of China's military receiving orders to change its level of alert, according to a Reuters report. The spokesman's comment came in response to a question about a South China Morning Post report that said China's military near Taiwan had been placed on combat alert and were prepared to launch military operations in Taiwan if the island's election crisis worsened.
