Ministry slams shoddy work

Around two-thirds of construction projects in China fail to meet industry standards and regulations, said the Minister of Construction, Yu Zhengsheng.

Violations range from misuse of licences and unregistered developments to substandard work and shoddy materials, reported South China Morning Post. An investigation by the ministry of 274 major construction projects found that a third of the developers lacked the proper licences and that local government agencies often failed to follow the procedures to ensure quality control.

The ministry intends to introduce tougher accountability rules to remove unscrupulous developers and make local officials accountable for poor construction work in their areas.
