The electronics stimulus plan has allowed some Chinese companies to increase research and production of advanced flat-panel screens used on television and in other technologies. Some experts cautioned that they should have a longer-term view.
An official based inside the Hefei New Railway Station Comprehensive Development Zone in Anhui Province and who asked not to be identified, said, "Our goal is to become the national industrial base of flat panels."
The development zone, where the construction of a sixth-generation (6G) liquid crystal display (LCD) production line began in April, introduced China’s second plasma display panel (PDP) production line.
The first such plant was built by a subsidiary of the Chinese electronics maker, Sichuan Changhong Electric, in April 2007.
The later generation screens are considered much better in terms of resolution and image quality.
Alibaba.com reported DisplaySearch expected the full HD plasma penetration would continue to rise to over 50% of the global plasma TV shipments in 2010 and 80% by 2013.
