NDRC announces $318 billion in public-private partnership projects

The National Development and Reform Commission has invited private investors to help build, fund and operate a list of 1,043 projects worth a total of RMB1.97 trillion (US$317.75 billion) throughout the country, Reuters reported, citing a statement on the commission’s website. The projects, all of which are planned as public-private partnerships, will range among sectors such as public services, water conservation and transport, and will span 29 provinces and autonomous regions. Beijing is increasingly turning to such partnerships to fill a widening funding gap as regulators restrict off-balance sheet borrowing methods commonly used by local governments.
