NEC to shift PC production to China

NEC, Japan’s biggest supplier of personal computers, intends to shift the bulk of its PC production to China to cut costs. The company plans to increase the proportion of its PCs for the Japanese market produced in China from the current level of 10 per cent to 70 per cent by March 2003.

Production will be outsourced to several Taiwan companies that will manufacture the machines at factories in mainland China.
