New law enacted to protect Chinese online shoppers

China put into effect a new law stipulating a seven-day refund period for online purchases on Saturday, South China Morning Post reported, citing a state news agency. The move to offer better protection for online shoppers coincides with World Consumer Rights Day and comes as the country cracks down on illegal text message spam. Under the new law, consumers now have a week for a no-questions-asked refund on a wide array of items bought over the internet. The new law also requires online merchants to provide identification when registering their businesses.
