New TV production licences granted

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has granted television production licences to eight privately owned companies, South China Morning Postsaid. The licences were the first to be given under rules introduced in August that allow private companies into the market.

However, the rules still provide for provincial administrations to continue to supervise programme content to safeguard the direction of propaganda and programme quality. They also specifically exclude foreign companies from participation in the television production market.
