Logistics is the silent player in market share and profitability. Get
it right and the rest of the company will probably follow. Stuff it up
and you have problems.
Now UPS sees itself as a transformed logistics company and is
launching a new campaign in China (also in the United Kingdom and
Mexico) will, according to The Wall Street Journal, focus on UPS’s
ability to help companies of any size, industry or geography.
Scott Davis, UPS’s chairman and CEO said, ‘People often think of
logistics simply as moving goods to the right place at the right
time.’ If he added ‘at the right price’ he would probably be spot on.
A perhaps unfortunate aspect of the new campaign is that it uses the
1952 hit song ‘That’s Amore’ with new lyrics ‘That’s Logistics.’ Dean
Martin must be spinning in his grave.
