NWA Cargo to expand China service

[photopress:nwa_cargo_loading.jpg,full,alignright]The cargo division of Northwest Airlines is expanding its service between the U.S. and China. It will begin making four more trips to China in March of next year. The company’s plans have been approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. In total, Northwest will now make 14 cargo flights between the U.S. and Guangzhou, China, each week. Northwest, which has a hub in Memphis International Airport, has flown to China since 1947. NWA Cargo is the largest cargo carrier among U.S. combination passenger and cargo airlines, with 12 Boeing 747 freighter aircraft.

Both Atlanta-based United Parcel Service and Memphis-based FedEx fly to Guangzhou, where, as reported on this blog, FedEx recently started work on a $150 million distribution center which should open in 2008.
