[photopress:pearl_river.jpg,full,alignright]The largest petrochemical port in the Pearl River Delta has gone into operation with an annual handling capacity equivalent to one-tenth of the oil needs of southern China’s Guangdong province. Guangzhou Nansha Assets Operation Co. said in a statement on its website that the port on Xiaohu island at Nansha city in Guangdong has a planned annual handling capacity of around 12 million metric tons.
The company has invested $67.6 million jointly with Guangzhou Port Group to build the port, which can receive tankers of up to 100,000 deadweight tons. China Chemical Industry News reports that Guangdong’s annual demand for fuel oil stands at 150 million tons, with two-thirds of this volume being satisfied by products shipped in from overseas.
