Phone sales put Konka in black

Konka Group said that booming sales of its mobile phone handsets had contributed Yn22.5m to its first-half profit of Yn24.3m, after the company made a Yn191m loss for the first half of 2001. Konka, China's second largest maker of television sets, said that mobiles phones had become its second core business and a new driver of profit growth.

The company sold 559,500 handsets in the first half of 2002, more than double the number sold in the same period last year. It sold 2.26m television sets in the period, 35 per cent more year-on-year.
