Reading the newspapers this morning on China is a real nostalgia trip. It warms the cockles of my Democracy Wall-era journalistic heart to see all these stories about human rights and censorship and dissidents. The only China stories in the New York Times, the FT and the WSJ today are on non-business stories, harkening back to those days in the 1970s and much of the 1980s when China effectively didn’t have business, and hardly an economy. The China Daily comes to the party by leading on a visit to Beijing by the leader of a fraternal third world country – Pakistan’s Musharraf.
