China's population will peak at 1.387 to 1.45 billion between 2025 and 2030, state media reported, citing Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) research. The prediction scales back earlier estimates of a 1.6 billion peak in 2050. China's population is characterized by low birth, mortality and natural growth rates.
