Power, coal supplies normalize after severe weather

Ninety-three percent of power outages caused by this year’s severe winter weather have been fixed, Bloomberg reported. The State Council’s Disaster Relief and Emergency Command Center also announced on their website that reserves of coal for power generation rose to 23.1 million metric tons on February 10, which is enough to last the country 12 days, with coal shipments from ports in northern China rising quickly. Power shortages had affected an estimated 22 million households across 15 provinces in the country. Last week, Premier Wen Jiabao apologized in person to hundreds of thousands stranded at train stations because of winter storms and power shortages.
