Hangzhou municipal officials ordered factories to suspend daytime operations for four days a week to cut power consumption, state media reported. Some foreign-invested companies were being told they could suspend operations for only three days. Zhejiang's capital city reportedly faces a power shortfall of 1.3 million kW over this two-week period due to air conditioning use alone. Foreign-invested companies running on a 24-hour basis in economic zones would continue running according to their assigned power quotas, state media said.
