Red Bull unfazed by French ban

Red Bull Vitamin Drink Co, maker of the popular energy drink Red Bull, said it was not concerned about a French ban of the beverage for containing what it considered to be excessive caffeine.

Beijing-based Red Bull said that it was absolutely safe for human consumption and that the ban was more of a result of disparate product standards in Europe.

Red Bull, classified in China as a "functional food", is allowed to have 200mg of caffeine per liter, or 50mg of caffeine per can. In Europe, each can contains 80mg of caffeine.
