Power shortages are
set to worsen next year, according to China's main distributor of electricity, the State Grid
Corp. A supply gap of 10,000MW this summer, or about 2.8 per cent of national capacity, is
likely to grow to 15,000MW next year. The number of provinces and municipalities affected
by shortages is expected to rise from 14 this year to 16 next year, reported China
Daily.
The main factors behind the shortage were cited as an inadequate inter-regional
transmission network and a decline in new plant construction between 1998 and 2000
