State broadcaster targets domestic e-commerce platforms in annual name-and-shame

State Broadcaster China Central Television went after home-grown online sales and services platforms in its annual program on World Consumer Rights Day on Tuesday, South China Morning Post reported. The annual name-and-shame focused on food delivery ordering platform Ele.me, accusing it of partnering with unlicensed and unsanitary restaurants that provided fake pictures and false information. The program also accused used car trading platform Cheyipai.com of creating a sales system that allowed middlemen to skim extra profit off of purchases of cars entrusted to them for sale by consumers. The domestic focus marked a departure from recent years in which the program targeted high-profile international firms.
