Sudan I scare prompts product recall

Fast food operator KFC said it is pulling two items from its menu in China after Sudan I, a carcinogenic food coloring, was detected in a sauce, causing contamination fears. Sauce supplier Griffith Laboratories, according to a China Daily report, said the raw materials for the sauce were sourced from the Kunshan-based Hongfang Spice Company and had begun a recall of related products. An unnamed Hongfang employee told the daily that farmers tend to add Sudan I to their chili peppers to make them appear more attractive.
