Three Gorges powers ahead

Two additional generators will be installed this year at the Three Gorges Dam to alleviate power shortages in the Yangtze River Delta. The Yangtze Three Gorges Project Development Corp will now install a total of six generators in 2003.

"Because of this new situation, we shall install as many generators as we can this year," said Li Yongan, vice-president of the corporation. He added that the dam could produce more than 7bn kilowatt hours of power this year, compared with an original target of 3.8bn kilowatt hours.
