Toyota recalls Lexus in China

Japanese auto maker Toyota Motor (TM.NYSE, 7203.TYO) voluntarily recalled 22,869 Lexus cars in China because of malfunctioning windshield wipers, the largest such recall since a new law protecting Chinese consumers came into affect earlier this year, Bloomberg reported. The cars were imported Lexus IS cars made during January 2006 to September 2011, China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in an online statement. Toyota recalled roughly 1.3 million cars globally due to problems with window wipers and airbags, it said Wednesday. The new law gives the government the power to investigate and levy fines if manufacturers and importers do not promptly recall defective cars.
